Shockwave Therapy
Non‑invasive treatment for chronic muscle pain and tendon injuries.
Our clinic has provided Shockwave Therapy to the Brownsburg and West Indy area since 2018. Shockwave is widely used in Europe, Australia, and Asia, and has become increasingly common in the U.S. since 2021. We’ve found it to be one of the most effective modalities for breaking up muscle adhesions and reducing chronic muscle spasm.
What is Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave Therapy uses high‑energy acoustic pressure waves to stimulate healing in injured soft tissue. Unlike treatments that only mask pain, Shockwave works at the source by increasing circulation, accelerating tissue repair, and triggering the body’s natural regenerative processes. The rapid impulse speed creates a focused shockwave that can break down painful calcifications, reduce chronic muscle tension, and improve mobility.

Common Conditions Treated by Shockwave Therapy:
• Plantar Fasciitis
• Heel Spurs
• Achilles Tendinopathy
• Patellar Tendinopathy (Jumper’s Knee)
• Tennis Elbow
• Golfer’s Elbow
• Calcific Tendinopathy
• Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy
• Frozen Shoulder
• Muscle Trigger Points
• Muscle Strain
• Hamstring Tendinopathy
• IT Band Tightness
• Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome (Hip Bursitis / Gluteal Tendinopathy)

What to Expect From Shockwave Therapy
You may may experience a slight discomfort during the treatment. The intensity of the therapy can be adjusted for your comfort level, and most patients don’t experience any significant discomfort. Shockwave therapy is cumulative, so each session builds on the previous treatment. For best results, it is imperative to follow through with a care plan. A typical care plan for shockwave therapy is 2 sessions per week for 3 weeks, or 1 session per week for 6 weeks.
Medical Effects of Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave therapy interacts with the soft tissues causing accelerated tissue repair via cellular growth, analgesia (pain relief), and restoration of mobility.
Breaking Up Calcium Deposits
When a muscle, tendon, or ligament tears or is traumatized, calcium buildup can begin to occur in these soft tissues. Shockwave therapy can be used break up these calcifications which can then be removed by the lymphatic system.
Release Of Trigger Points (Fibromyalgia)
Trigger points can be a major source of pain in the neck, back, shoulders, and buttocks. Shockwave therapy is used to break up the bi-products of muscle use that form trigger points as well as to open the calcium pumps within the muscle. This reverses the metabolic crisis occurring in the muscle fibers and releases the trigger points.
New Blood Vessel Formation
The acoustic shockwaves create micro-ruptures in the tendons and bone. As a result, new blood vessel growth is stimulated. The new blood vessels improve blood supply and oxygenation of the area being treated, creating faster healing of the tendon and bone.
Pain Reduction
Shockwave therapy rapidly reduces pain by lowering the concentration of “Substance P” in the body. Substance P is a neurotransmitter that is associated with intense and long lasting pain from chronic conditions. Reducing the presence of Substance P and histamines with shockwave therapy can also help reduce swelling.
